Obituary for Rose DeSantis

Rose DeSantis
Rose DeSantis

February 6, 1927- September 13, 2023

Rose Amarante DeSantis went home to be with the Lord on September 13th, 2023. Rose was born in Brooklyn NY on February 6, 1927, to the late Biaggio and Angelina Amarante. Rose grew up in Coney Island, where she met and married the late Vito DeSantis in 1951. Rose is survived by her loving children, William (wife Mary) and Paula, and adoring granddaughter, Lisa.

Rose was a lifelong homemaker and was very proud to be from Brooklyn. She had a reputation for being an incredible cook and that was how she showed her love and appreciation for others. Everyone was always welcome in her home on Stillwell Avenue. In her later years, she moved to Virginia Beach to be with Paula and made tons of friends who turned into family members.

Rose had a zest for life like no other. She seldom didn’t have a smile on her face. And if you knew her, you know that nothing brought her greater joy than being with her family. Her beautiful nature was recognized especially by children and animals– she was a magnet for gentle souls.

Although we are beyond devastated by her loss, we are all blessed to have had her earthside for 96 long, beautiful years. And we know that her incredible spirit lives on in so many ways. We hope that everyone who knew her will pay it forward with an attitude like Rose’s: living life to the fullest and enjoying the ride right until the very end.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 19th at Peter C. Labella Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Most Precious Blood Church in Brooklyn.
